“I get cranky when I’ve been sick for a week and haven’t been able to try any new chocolate for fear of incorrectly assessing its flavours.” >>> hehe you really are one dedicated gal 🙂 Hope you feel better soon!!!

coffee oatmeal pudding -oh that sounds like fun!

Lions and their balls is a Chinese thing, and I think the Italians borrowed from that (damn you, Marco Polo, this is all your fault!). It’s Chinese tradition that the male lion always had a ball and the female lion always has a cub, and the ball is supposed to represent heaven and the cub is supposed to represent earth… I think? I don’t know if that’s the official position of respected Chinese history scholars, but it’s what I’ve read on a plaque in a museum somewhere. Toronto, I think, actually… so neither in China nor Italy, so what would they know? Nothing, probably!

    Dear gelato company,
    “Emulsifyers” is not a word.
    Kindest regards,

Is that what it is. We were told on our recent trip to HK that that’s how you tell girl and boy lions (Chinese statue ones that is) but I don’t recollect the full explanation of why boys have their feet on a ball!

    Ha!! I love your blog!!
Anytime I have a berry smoothie I end up with some under my left eye – every time! How?! And I think your chia seeds balance out the instant coffee….besides, instant coffee is delicious…especially with condensed milk 🙂

Just made a new chocolate cake, think you need to get your paws on the recipe

  5. Fiona

You got a new phone?? Does this mean you might respond to my texts? :p

Yum, I adore hazlenut ice cream and gelato I adore anything hazlenut, really!

Where are you planning to go in Melbs for dinner?

  8. Amber Shea @Almost Vegan

    #2 sounds delicious!
As for #6, subterfuge would be more fun, but the appeal to adventure is probably the wisest route.

  9. Hungrytown Dave

Ha Hannah, I just checked your blog, first time in months, and you had me laughing out loud in 30 seconds!

  10. chanel11

#12 did make me forget number 11! But perhaps I should remember that one…
And I am definitely going to try out that coffee oatmeal pudding…

  11. Lorraine @NotQuiteNigella

I’ve done the same with my toothbrush too although I don’t think anyone should be striving for my level of coordination! And yes I read that about the toothbrush in a Dr Karl book and now I’m a complete nazi about putting the toilet seat down. It doth traumatise doesn’t it!

  12. hungryandfrozen

Those ingredients are indeed shiver-inducing! Vegetable gums!

I can’t say I read the coffee oatmeal pudding ingredients with total joy, but I am quite in love with chia seeds – isn’t their magical setting power magical?

  13. L-Izzle

I will not lie: the main reason I am commenting is because I wanted there to be 14 comments on your entry of 14 things. I’m gonna be pissed when somebody comments after me and messes up my brilliant plan.

Coffee-pudding-oats sounds aweeeesome. Harry Potter WILL BE AWESOME! Hazelnut gelato is awesome also (in theory), but many of those ingredients are much less awesome. I tend not to trust things that don’t have ‘butter’ or ‘sugar’ in their top ingredients…I like my food to contain food. Rather than like…the entire periodic table. You being sick is also not awesome 🙁 Feel better…I want you back on your feet and eating chocolate again soon!

  14. Kath Lockett

I’m famous for not being a porridge fan, but maybe I should try your coffe oatmeal concoction

And the loo thing? True. My brother is a late-in-life plumber who always says, “Put the lid down if the loo is in your bathroom!”

  15. Camille

I have to admit I’m rather jealous that Harry Potter is coming out a whole week earlier in Australia than it is in France. I mean, I know it takes time to write the subtitles and everything, but couldn’t they just show it without them for those of us who don’t need them?

Also, #11, I’ve heard before. Makes me glad that in France, the toilet is often in a completely separate room.

  16. Becca

Ummm… I have copied your coffee oat mixture and fully intend to make this asap. Possibly in 5 minutes when I go cook my oats. Thank you! YUM!

  17. Vaala ◪

    1. Hahaha! I usually put the toothpaste on my brush, wet the toothbrush, bring it up to my mouth and find that there is no longer any toothpaste on it and I wonder where it’s gone…only to discover it’s all the way down my top!
    3. I am SO insanely jealous! I would be doing that if I didn’t have a stupid world champs 24 hour race this weekend where I am supposed to be getting as much sleep as possible this week. My life is so tragic!!! 😛
But I am going tomorrow or Friday during the day so it’s okay I guess…but waiting is not my strong point!
    4. I’d be jealous too…oh heck, I AM jealous!
    11. Umm…I shouldn’t have read that.
    14. There is nothing more true.

PS there is a ginger crunch recipe up just for you!

  18. Monique

I caaaan’t wait for Harry P 🙂 let’s compare notes after we both see it. Though, I am bummed they made it a two-part ordeal. What a massive tease. (You know they won’t come out with the second one by whatever BS deadline they initially try to hit)

  19. tasteofbeirut

Interesting list! will have to try that cofee oatmeal thing (minus the soy milk)

  20. theresa

Apparently when you smell something you are actually breathing in tiny particles of it. Coupled with #11, that should really cement the trauma for you.

  21. Anna Johnston

Oh yes, Dr Karl did say that, many years ago when I was a teenager and I’ve had a toothbrush/cleaning phobe ever since…., serious, longlasting trauma that one huh 🙂

  22. Johanna GGG

explaining number 1 is easy if it happened after number 11 – I would be missing my mouth too 🙂

And I am jealous about you seeing harry potter – though realised I missed the last movie (luckily have read all the books which are better) but am still wondering how I can get to see the new one – maybe you will swipe a wand – by accident – and then I will be even more jealous!

  23. penny aka jeroxie

I fear that I leave the house without my underwear…

  24. Emma @CakeMistress

So glad to know I’m not the only one doing a quick pants/skirt check after leaving the house. They say you should learn something new everyday, and now I know more about the perils of icky toilet water. Bones is so great for learning geeky facts 🙂

  25. Susan: My Food Obsession

I actually can’t wait to see the new Harry Potter movie!!!!! Feels like it’s been FOREVER since the last one – so jealous that your going to the midnight screening – Have fun!!

  27. Maria@TheGourmetChallenge

awwww coconut daisies. What was number 11 again?….oh thats right…..CRAP!

LMAO How funny is the link!! You just made my day

  28. Conor @ HoldtheBeef

Life is much better with hugs but what if you want to hug people that live very far away? What then, huh?

omg so excited about Harry! I’m busy busy busy for at least the next week though, so I’m going to have to hold onto my excitement until I’m free to see it. Gah!

  29. Mish

#15 Homemade is always best x

  30. Agnes

Oh, what’s the restaurant? And is he taking you? 🙂

  31. Alisa Cooks

Such a cute list Hannah – I especially loved #12 since #11 did traumatize me.
Oh and #1, so, so, possible – speaking from experience.
I need your chocolate ideas on my blog today!!!
