Considering that I have about fortyillion thousand thirteenty seven different easy recipes for rice krispie treats on my blog, and have been lured into buying limited edition Oreos several times in the past (ahem, Birthday Cake Oreos and Gingerbread Oreos), it should come as no surprise that I was determined to track down Nabisco’s Marshmallow Crispy Oreos during my US vacation this winter.
I initially also wanted the Cookie Dough Oreos but, as internet reviews have universally panned them, I decided to let it go (insert Frozen joke here).
Just like the cookies themselves roll onto the tongue.
SEE WHAT I DID THERE? Oh heavens, I’m tired. Shhhhhh.
And the taste? Pretty spot on, too. The cream filling (oops, “crème filling”) had a distinct marshmallow taste, and the addition of puffed rice bits was a fun nod to the real treats’ texture. The crème even seemed fluffier than usual, though I wouldn’t bet my life on that (could’ve been a trick of the mind). The cookie component was your standard Golden Oreo, contributing a light sweetness that didn’t overpower the marshmallow flavour.
Of course, these would be even better with peanut butter, but I finished my travel jar several days ago.
