I feel like I spent my (almost) three months in America desperately trying to review all the chocolate I’d eaten back home in Australia.
I’ve now been in Toronto for (almost) three months too, and find myself similarly caught in frantic attempts to write up the chocolate I bought and ate in America.
Will this cycle never end?!
I hope not.
It’s such a delicious cycle, after all.
Chuao Chocolatier Potato Chip Bar
Say it with me now: ‘MURCAH!
Where else could we find “all natural crisp kettle cooked potato chips and a hint of sea salt mix[ing] and mingl[ing] in milk chocolate” but the United States? Land of the free, home of the brave, yadda yadda bison s’mores old faithful prairies baseball yadda yadda and all that jazz? If freedom and bravery translate into mixing potato chips into 41% milk chocolate, then hand me that visa application. I’m in.
The aroma of potato chips was immediately apparent in this Chuao milk chocolate bar. It took me right back to Sunday dinners with my parents and Grandma Mickey, as we’d always start the night with a bowl of plain Kettle chips (and a sneaky glass of chardonnay or sweet sherry).
From the first bite, my tastebuds responded to Chuao’s Potato Chip Bar with KAPOW and WHIZZ-BANG. Chuao has here nicely balanced the salty crunch of potato chips with the vanilla-thickshake-esque sweetness of its milk chocolate blend. I’ve previously heard of people dipping French fries into soft serve ice cream and, while I’ve never done this myself, I think I now understand the appeal.
This bar was delicious in an I-really-shouldn’t-be-enjoying-this-it-should-be-gross-but-it-isn’t-so-please-sir-can-I-have-some-more way. Bravo, Chuao.
Righteously Raw 90% Cacao Lúcuma Caramel Bar
I was utterly and completely excited about trying Righteously Raw’s 90% Cacao Bar Covering An Exotic Superfood Truffle Lúcuma Caramel Bar. I thought it was going to be magnificent. I thought it was going to be a chocolate that would haunt my dreams and sing to my soul. I thought I would adore it.
The chocolate itself was enjoyable, as I liked its dark intensity, subdued sweetness, and crisp snap/smooth melt. However, the date and lucuma filling was dry and almost flavourless, thereby leading my soul to whimper rather than sing. That said, I’ll probably still try Righteously Raw’s other chocolate bars.
…right after I’ve cleansed my palate with Peanut Butter Panda Puffs cereal and Enjoy Life Mini Chocolate Chips whilst alternating between reading The Time Traveler’s Wife and The Last Unicorn, that is.
