A Kansas City Interlude of Happiness

sometimes

this thing we call happiness

is as simple

and as simply magnificent

as

Amber and Hannah on Amber's Wedding Day

arriving in time to celebrate your soulsister’s marriage to her wonderful fellow

Steve Madden Madden Girl Glitter High Heels

stepping onto the dancefloor in brand new glitter high heels, shortly after sipping grape vodka mixed with lemonade from the wedding’s open bar

coffee, hemp milk, stevia

waking up every morning to a freshly-brewed pot of coffee with stevia, hemp milk, and a mug set aside ‘specially for you

So Delicious Almond Milk Cookies and Cream

cookies and cream almond milk ice cream, at any hour of the day

Amber Almost Vegan reading VegNews

reading, side-by-side, on the couch with your soulsister

Hannah reading Interview with a Vampire

snuggled into the softest cushions, together

Justin's Vanilla Almond Butter

and the most delicious vanilla almond butter imaginable, almond butter that tastes like white chocolate, like frosting, like the knowledge

that life

can reallyreallyreally

be quite lovely.

  1. Eeee you bought beautiful glittery heels! Yeehaw!!

Sad band-aid. Happy EVERY THING else! Cool monster-like blanket, too, it looks like an alive pile of rocks.

    • Yeah I did!! And I’m very proud of myself for choosing the slightly-more-modest glittery heels, rather than the skyscraper heels I was tempted by in New York. In truth, even these ones ended up not-on-my-feet by the end of the wedding celebration :P

Teehee, I was wondering who would comment on the band-aid. You know, whenever I wonder whether someone will notice something… IT’S ALWAYS YOU YOU WIN ALWAYS>

    • We missed your rocking movements too! But hurrah, time has magically passed, and now we’re all here together again. RIGHT HERE. Right here. Now. Yep.

    • I haven’t tried any coconut milk ice cream from Australia (stupidbum Canberra doesn’t have any), so I don’t know what you’d compare it to, but I’d have to say that the coconut milk ice cream here is creamier than the almond milk ice cream, but I prefer almonds to coconuts so I prefer the almond milk ice cream.

Wow, that was a ridiculously long-winded answer.

    • Teehee, I actually changed the wording of the first draft of this post to take out “idyllic” and “exquisite”, because I feel like I’ve used both of them too much recently. But each of those words is absolutely true.

    • Thank you Theresa!! I like them because they’re quite dark, so the glitter isn’t in-your-face-Vegas-hooker-style, but in the sunlight they sparkle beautifully :)

P.S. That’s two people to notice the band-aid so far! Believe you me, it wasn’t the only band-aid by the end of the night…

  2. WOW almond milk ice-cream?! Never seen that but definitely good for my vegan and dairy intolerant friends :) AND Almond butter ME WANT to try especially since you said it tastes like white chocolate but it’ll be so much better for me hhahaah

    • You wouldn’t even believe how many different brands of extravagantly-flavoured almond, coconut, and rice milk ice cream exist here. Gluten-free chocolate chip cookie dough coconut milk ice cream? Yep. Carob almond rice milk ice cream? Yep. It makes me so sad to know eventually I’ll be back where it doesn’t exist!

      • It’s great! I think I found it via your link to the 5 minute brownies, actually! I’ve made the vegetable korma twice, and several of the smoothies (I finally got a blender which actually blends things), and the apple oatmeal, and those amazing tacos – I’ve been feeding those to omnivore friends who are completely bowled over by how good they are.

Oh, and I was positively *compelled* to purchase a vegetable spiraliser, which is possibly the most amusing kitchen gadget I have ever owned… I am now just looking for excuses to spiralise everything.

So yeah, I’m cooking from Amber’s book about once a week even when frantically busy, just because it makes raw food actually feasible. Great stuff!

        • This makes my heart sing, and as soon as we’ve finished what we’re watching, I’m going to call her right over to read this. Amber is magnificent in all the ways!

  3. I love every.single.thing in this post. All sparkly and good and fun.

Amber looks amazing (and you look not bad yourself :P ) – hope you had a good time!

I wish we had almond milk icecream here…maybe I’ll try making it ?? *ponders thought*

  4. Wuaaaahhh… I want to try em all! I love anything Almond. It’s only my second favourite nut (right behind hazelnut). It must be at least 3 years since I last had Almond Butter, how sad! Send some over please? Pretty please? Thanks Hannah you’re the best! ;p

    • Would you like vanilla almond, honey almond, maple almond, chocolate almond, Barney Butter (SO GOOD), almond and flax seed, roasted almond, raw sprout almond, salted almond, unsalted almond, almond with gummi bears?

(I made the last one up.)

  5. You are such a bright spot on a dark day. I only wish I could have been at that wedding, too…

PS, have you tried Peanut Butter & Co’s White Chocolate Wonderful PB? Now THAT is amazing stuff.

    • Oh my love! Thank you. I’m sure we would both have loved to have you there xo

P.S. Up until this Justin’s vanilla almond creation, PB&Co’s White Chocolate Wonderful was my absolute favourite nut butter (to the extent that I’ve made my brother bring it back from holidays in the US for me). I think I’ll need to do a side-by-side taste-test to compare whether Justin’s or PB&Co reigns supreme now ;)

    • You can only really appreciate the sparkling days through also experiencing the heavy-cloud-thickening days, but I’m glad to say the majority of my journey has been golden. :)

  6. Lovelylovelylovely!

I remember seeing that almond butter at Wholefoods when I was in Santa Monica this year, soon many sachets of it shall be mine!

Those glitter heels are the most, to say the very least.

    x

    • I thought you might like these shoes, dear one! As soon as I break them in more, I will be heel clicking with them. Have no doubt about that.

If you have the space for it, buy a jar of the vanilla almond butter. DO IT.

(P.S. Wow, it was out back then? Amber was sure it was new; the maple and honey have apparently been out far longer.)

    • Oh my heavens; you’re so right!! If only they were red (in all seriously, I have longed for red glitter shoes all my life. One day I’ll find them). However, I don’t yet want to go home, so perhaps it’s a good thing that they’re multicoloured instead.

  7. Such a pleasure to get to know you a bit and to spend such a fun and entertaining evening with you. I only hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! You’re welcome in Kansas ANYTIME!!

    • Oh Cheryl, I’m so touched that you took the time to comment, and with such lovely words, too! I had a magnificent night tonight with you, Ken, and Amber; thank you again, from the bottom of my heart, for inviting me along. I think I already know that my heart will pull me back to Kansas again! :)

    • Thank you! I am a wealth of smiles right now. I had a magical time last night, and will miss laughing with my lovely friend’s lovely parents at the next dinner theatre adventure. Thank you again for graciously letting me join you :)
