Gallivanting in New York: Shining, Walking, Hail Merry to the Fairytales

Day Two New York.

Day Two Window Reflection Proof of Existence Self-Portrait.

Hannah Self-Portrait in New York Window

Day Two New York was gloriousness from the top of the morning to the close of the day.

I walked and walked and walked in the heat the heat the warmth the sun beating down radiating golden gold too hot wonderfully too hot, accents all around me singsongsingsong, Central Park wandering stopping shade sitquiet readpeoplewatch look! a lady bouncing through the green on shoes with springs beneath the soles! I walked and walked and walked and walked

The Health Nut, Lexington Avenue, New York

every health food store, every raw snack and juice bar trilled siren songs to me and I succumbed, I succumbed, I’ve long been a water-or-coffee-thank-you-that-will-be-all girl, but I listened to the Queen of Vibrant New York, Gena, and walked 25 blocks to Juice Generation, and

Hail to Kale juice at Juice Generation, New York

I said one 12oz Hail to Kale, please, and would you mind if I had some water too, please and thank you and it was gorgeous, it was green and glowing and kale and watermelon and apple and lemon and I thought this is why people like fresh juice, because it is like bliss on a hot shining day and I could drink this forever

I walked and walked and then I stopped and laughed because the spots all the spots

Louis Vuitton New York

but I didn’t shop at Louis Vuitton because I don’t like to shop in places where scary ladies stalk children through the glass even if we could probably trick her into getting into the oven in her gingerbread house before closing the door, maybe, I think, maybe

Scary lady in the Louis Vuitton window

I walked and walked and missed a call from Mr Hiking In Utah and so I wrote back oops it seems I was too entranced by the wonderland of Victoria’s Secret to hear my phone / it is a magical place filled with ALL THE COLOURS and a good deal of lace and I bought swimmers for the first time in my life and it wasn’t as scary as I thought it might be and in fact they almost make me want to go swimming but not quite exactly but maybe

I walked and walked and saw sparks of colour amidst fences that made me think of fairytale carriages and I saw sculptures that made me laugh

and I found a myriad delicious treats to eat, I tried to only buy a few but nevertheless ended up with a hotel picnic feast

Hail Merry Persian Lime Tart, Sprouted Roasted Lentils Cinnamon Sugar and Salt and Pepper, Power Rolls

the Hail Merry Persian Lime Raw Vegan Tart was made with raw blue agave, almond flour, coconut butter, cashews, lime juice, palm sugar, coconut oil, shredded coconut, lemon juice powder, sea salt, lemon zest and it was sublime-beyond, with so much zingy-zappity in a rich meltingly buttery sweet lime-lemon-coconut-rich filling with a nutty coconut base of wonderment and they state three servings in this little tart? I say to you hah! one serving! mine all mine forever!

Hail Merry Persian Lime Tart

and I walked and walked a hundred thousand seventy blocks in the sun the warmth the smiles the dancing heart and three different people asked me for directions and for all three people I knew the answer and

it

was

joy.

    • Alas, I’m not really a chocolate-desserts person (I like my chocolate straight up), so I think you might be on your own in that regard. At least, until I find them significantly lower in price, as you say!

  1. Your joy gives fairy wings to my heart dear girl … so much in need of happy sparkly words to lift me out of this dreary heavy day … and sunshine, so much sunshine … beautiful, colourful photos … and wanderlust and dreaming … yes, yes, mad as the Hatter today …

    • This gives me great joy, my friend! There is so much sunshine and glittering happiness out there in the world for you, too. Even on dreary heavy days, but even more once you get beyond those :) x

  2. You knew the directions? Atta girl:) How were the sprouted flavored lentils? How was the creepy Yoko Ono imposter in the window? How were the sneakers (not heels!) on day two?

    Onwards to Chi-town!

    • The sneakers were very comfortable, except after seven hours of walking with just a few breaks for shopping and eating, even the sneakers couldn’t save my legs from the shakytired!

I used to roast lentils, so I ate like this before it was cool. :P They were quite tasty! Very peppery (the pepper, not sugar, ones, of course).

  3. So much happiness and goodness here, I love it. Seems like you’re becoming a regular New-Yorker already. Good for you and knowing the directions :) I remember when I moved to Dublin- the first time someone asked me for directions I knew the answer, I felt like a true Dubliner and like I belonged! I wonder how long that will take me in Toronto!

Keep on enjoying the moments :)

    • Thanks Lisa! This was the day before the emergency-bought flip-flops destroyed my feet :P But I’ll be right! Just ambling SLOWLY in Chicago-town now.

  4. It sounds like you are having an amazing time. How lovely to be in all that warm weather after the cold of Canberra. And I’m enjoying the self-portraits but will there be one of you in the new swimsuit??? xx

    • Very happy indeed, particularly because even the too-hot is just-hot-enough for me after so much cold in Canberra. :)

Bahaha! I may or may not have taken a photo of the swimsuit in the changing room, but in no way have the courage to post it :P

  5. Sounds wunderbar Hannah … Love hearing about your day. How were the feet. Love the shopping photo of you in the window!

    • Mum’s got it! I honestly haven’t been swimming since about the age of 13 or 14, and before then, didn’t choose or buy them myself.

And even though I’ve bought some, now, I think I may end up like the girl in the Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny etc etc.

  6. travel must be the answer if it makes you so lyrically happy – it is rainy grey here but snuggly with heater on and chocolate cake in the oven. But I love to hear all about your happy happy travels – blue agave, and kale juice sound wonderful and those spots look such fun – enjoy your swimmers

  7. Sprouted lentils? Really? Sweet sprouted lentils? Savoury? Was it bad? Go on- you can tell me. The other things look more intriguing. Well apart from that red and white spotted window- that just looks disturbing. Glad you’re having a fabulous time over there.

    • Really nice! Have you even had Chicnuts, or roasted chickpeas yourself? I actually used to roast lentils, a few years ago, so was happy to find these. Same crispy snack concept as chicnuts, but with additional “sprouting” because, well, it’s New York :P

    • Teehee, I’ve been living vicariously through everyone else for over two years now, it’s so good to be travelling again! :D

  8. Awesome! I hope you’re enjoying yourself, though it looks like you clearly are. And can I say how jealous I am about that juice bar?! I want one nearby :)

    • Thanks Monique!! I really am enjoying myself, even the quiet days. It’s America! I’m on extended holidays! All the delicious things!

Hey, you have froyo, right? That beats juice. :P

  9. Oh you are such a funny lovely girl! I liked that you stopped for a breath right at the end cause I was reading what you wrote in a single breath and needed the oxygen air if not I would have passed out and then what do we do o Angle Babe?

    • Thank you Sophie! It feels right so far, definitely :)

Aaaaah! Bahahahaha!! SPYMAN!! I love it, thank you Sophie! :D Say hi to him for me :)
